The Masquerade Ball is the ninth episode of the second season of Regal Academy.

Synopsis

Grandpa Beast asks Travis to protect his family item, the Beast Mask, during a masked ball at Beast Castle.[1]

Plot

Rose and Clara Cinderella enter the portal to regal academy, and the latter questions her daughter’s reasoning for wearing a pumpkin with a messy doodle of a face drawn on it. Rose answers that she’s practicing for the masquerade ball coming up, and promptly falls over because she can’t see where she’s headed. Clara encourages her daughter to cut out eye holes next time. Rose continues to express her excitement, and Clara reminds her that she must survive the school day.

In Dragonology, Beast tells the students that they will be learning how to fly dragons in deadly storm conditions, making it the most dangerous lesson they will ever have. Rose points out that there aren’t any deadly storms in the area (it’s a very nice day, in fact), and Beast chuckles and pulls out the Beast Mask. He explains that it has the power to ”bend the weather to his will,” and demonstrates it by creating a storm.

Travis Beast laments that his grandfather won’t let him near it, far less use it. Astoria points out that clouds and light rain won’t cause anyone to fall off of their dragon, just before the red-haired Charming falls off of his dragon, knocking the black-haired Charming off of his dragon, and they both fall to the ground. Beast announces that he’s about to test the students, and summons a wind that pushes the students around him back, which causes Gerald Ugly Duckling and Vicky Broomstick to fall off. Benches begin to blow around, and three hit Travis’d forehead, as well as knock Joy off of her dragon. Joy is blown onto Rose, and then LingLing. Astoria sees them, and jumps off of her dragon. The two students who had already fallen see Astoria falling, and fight over who will save her, but Astoria uses her hair to save herself and her classmates, saying that she can save herself. Rose requests that they do it again.

Hawk SnowWhite notices Travis’s success in avoiding being knocked off of his dragon, and Travis gives him a thumbs up. It begins snowing, and Vicky says that with the Beast Mask, the Snow Queen could freeze over all of Fairytale Land. Travis asks his grandfather if he’s good enough for the Beast Mask, as he’s successfully survived the snow storm, and Beast tells him that he’ll have to withstand far more than a flurry. Hawk has his dragon charge at Beast, but is blown off by a powerful blast of snow. His team (and LingLing) catches him. Beast lands, and calls Travis pathetic before dismissing the class.

That night, Astoria, LingLing, Travis, Joy, Hawk, and Rose stand together in their party outfits at Beast’s castle. Rose asks if anyone is as excited as she is for their first masquerade ball together, and Astoria says that it’s likely impossible. Hawk says that he’s relieved that Rose didn’t show up with a pumpkin on her head, and she chuckles nervously and turns away, claiming that she would never do that. The PomPoms come up to her with a pumpkin, and she shoos them away. They throw the pumpkin away, and it lands on Travis’s head.

Joy LeFrog asks Astoria is she’s looking forward to dancing, and Astoria tells her that she doesn’t have time for romance. At the party, Beauty thanks all of the attendees for coming, and explains that the ball is being thrown in her nephew, Shawn Beast, who has been studying abroad. Shawn (after being encouraged by his aunt and uncle) summons masks for the attendees to wear. He explains that every mask comes with a touch of magic that can be accessed by giving it a tap. Gerald tries, and his head is transformed into a cake with a beak. Odette Swan touches hers, and her dress becomes purple, while a background character is transformed into an elephant. Rose decides to put her mask in her fairytale collection box. Hawk taps on his mask to give Rose a flower, but instead, her entire body (excluding her head) is covered in pink flowers. Travis says that his can’t be that bad, and taps his, only to be given a long nose, which knocks him over and promptly disappears. He takes his mask off of his face, and sees Shawn standing over him.

Travis greets Shawn, putting his hands on his shoulders, and says that he (referring to Shawn) is still the little prince of the family. Shawn quickly moves away, causing Travis to fall onto LingLing, and tells him that they’ve all grown up a little. The PomPoms try to pry Rose’s mask out of her hands, but she tries to get the, to let go. Shawn sees, and Rose introduces herself. Joy introduces Hawk, LingLing, and herself, and tells him that he remembers Astoria, gesturing to where her friend (who had left) had been. Rose manages to stand up, having been able to pry the PomPoms’ hands off of it (though three of them are climbing up her skirt), and says that Astor had been there seconds ago.

Shawn leaves, and Rose infers that something is going on between him and Astoria. She vows to help. Travis says that Dragonology had been a mess, but hopes that he will have luck at the party. Beast puts his hand on Travis’s shoulder, and asks if he’s for a challenge, to which Travis answers that he is. Beast instructs Travis to protect the Beast Mask, as everyone is wearing masks. Hawk tries to accompany his friend, but is swarmed with girls.
