Test of the Tower is the seventeenth episode of the second season of Regal Academy.

Synopsis

Astoria learns she is no longer enrolled at Regal Academy because her grandmother has decided it is time for her to wait in a tower to be saved by the prince who will marry her.[1]

Plot

Astoria decides that she wants to take the Regal Academy Advanced Placement Exam. Rapunzel reminds her granddaughter that no one has passed the exam since Astoria’s mother did. Astoria asks her how she did it, and her mother says it’s ancient history and walks out of the room. Rapunzel tells Astoria to focus on finding a prince, and Astoria tells her that it would distract her from her goal to become headmistress. Astoria refuses to ever marry.

Rose, Hawk, Joy, Astoria, and Travis run down a set of stairs (along with Rose’s legion of PomPoms) to avoid being late for class, and Astoria says that if they’re late again, she won’t ever forgive any of them. Shawn Beast strolls on his merry way, but turns to say good morning to Astoria as they pass him by. However, they zoom past him, and he is spun around (before the PomPoms trample him).

Travis tells Astoria to relax, as he feels that today is his lucky day, and runs head first into a flower pot, knocking him off of his feet. Astoria grabs his foot with her ivy hair, and continues to run. Joy stops for a moment to say that they’ve almost arrived at school. They run down the hallway, thinking that they’ve made it, but then two guards block their way with fleur de lis spears. They are told that everyone but Astoria may enter, as Astoria has been unenrolled.

Later, Rapunzel sits Astoria and her friends down and tells her that she’s unenrolled her to make sure she focuses on “more important things.” She adds that Astoria doesn’t need to have magic or the ability to ride a dragon to be a real princess. Astoria asks why she was unenrolled just now, and Rapunzel answers, “because I said so.” Rapunzel orders Astoria to enter the Rapunzel Tower and wait for her prince. Astoria agrees, on one condition.

Astoria, her team, and her grandmother fly to the tower on their dragons, and Astoria tells her grandmother the condition. She’ll move into the tower if her grandmother lets her take the advanced placement exam the following week. If Astoria passes, she will return to school. Rapunzel agrees to her condition. Astoria adds that Rapunzel will stop pestering her about finding a prince. Rapunzel agrees half-heartedly. Rapunzel explains how the tower works, and how whoever reaches the top of the tower and rings the bell will be awarded Astoria’s hand in marriage.

Vicky, Cyrus, and Kira fly their dragons toward the tower, and Vicky looks at Astoria through a crystal ball, expressing her mock-sympathy for Astoria’s situation. Kira says that if they get Astoria here, it will be one less member of a fairytale family to take care of. Cyrus tries to understand, but admits that he doesn’t understand. Vicky says that that’s perfect. She uses her wand to summon a book with two wedding rings on it (the Rapunzel Rule Book) and prepares to persuade their “hero.”

Meanwhile, Astoria, Rose, and LingLing have set up a study area so Astoria can prepare for her exam. Rose asks how Astoria plans to keep up with the lessons, and Astoria says that she needs to find what her mother used to pass. Rose suggests that Astoria’s mother was just incredibly smart, and Astoria assumes that Rose means that Astoria’ Mother was smarter than her. She affirms that the tower must be hiding a secret. Astoria tells her dog to sniff out the secret, and he sets out to do so.

Violet tells Odette that Astoria moved into the Rapunzel Tower. Pinnochia says that she thought that Astoria wanted to become the headmistress of Regal Academy, and Gerald says that he doesn’t know what happened. Shawn is surprised, and Rose asks if Shawn is planning to climb the tower. Several boys begin getting excited about the prospect of marrying a Rapunzel (as it would elevate their status). Shawn says that if he knows Astoria’s she’s using her time in the tower to study.

Prince Leif enters the area, and says that he is driven by his love of Astoria Rapunzel. He had spotted her when he was visiting Regal Academy. Rapunzel approaches him, and says that while he is a fine prince, he’ll have to give it his all if he wants to win Astoria’s hand in marriage. He accepts the challenge. Shawn says to his teammate that he doesn’t like Leif, as a true prince wouldn’t fall in love with a girl he barely knows.

Vicky and Kira share a grin, and Vicky tells Leif that he can’t fly to the top of the tower on a dragon. He worries that the guardian dragon doesn’t know about the loophole involving his  wings. Vicky lends him the book, and he thanks them. He flies off to Rapunzel’s Tower, and Vicky, Kira, and Cyrus chant together about how evil they are.

Astoria is studying, and Rose asks her to let them help. Astoria apologizes, and explains that her mother and grandmother are always too busy with their work to help her, so she’s become accustomed to studying alone. Gigi and the other pets play in the fountain, and a PomPom knocks Joy’s frog into the water. Astoria’s dog continues to search for the secret left in the tower, but comes across a button under the table. He presses it, and a dark blue book magically appears. He opens it, and a picture of dog food appears. He brings it to Astoria, and she asks him where he found it. She takes it from him, and it glows with blue light. Sparkles begin to come from the book and encircle Astoria.

Her eyes return to the book, which has grown a face and donned gold-rimmed glasses. He greets her by name, and she is surprised by his ability to speak. She asks him if he’s always been in the tower, and he says that he taught her mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

She cuts him off, telling him that she gets the idea, and opens the book, only to find that the pages inside are blank. The book’s face appears on the inside of the book. He tells her that he’ll answer any of her questions. She asks him what he knows about family dragons, and a page on them appears. She asks about potion ingredients, and the information on family dragons is replaced with potion ingredient information.

Chad and two other princes arrive at Rapunzel Tower, and begin running across the first bridge. Joy spots them, and tells her friends. Rose asks to press the button, and they let her. She presses the button, and a bridge disappears from underneath two princes. Chad is crushed by a boulder. Rose and Joy sees the PomPoms are pressing the button, and the princes are continually sent flying or falling. Vicky, Kira, and Cyrus fly towards the tower, and see Leif arriving. Vicky sends Cyrus to distract the guardian dragon.

Chad uses magic to create a catapult, and then sends a boulder to land on the other side. However, Shawn reverses the direction of the log, and Chad is once again crushed by a boulder. Shawn sees Leif fly to the top of the tower, and uses mask magic to slingshot himself to the top.

He reaches it before Leif, but sees Astoria sitting on the ground, talking to her magic book. She asks the book why princes want to marry princesses in towers, and it answers that it’s simply out of love. Astoria says that she doesn’t want to marry a prince who wins a contest, she wants to marry a prince she loves. Shawn leaves, and Leif reaches the top. Astoria is startled, and tells him that utilizing his ability to fly isn’t fair. He shows her that he read the Rapunzel Rule Book, and says that all he has to do is ring the bell on top of the tower.

He reaches over to ring the bell, but Shawn orders him to stop. Shawn tells her to consider Astoria’s feelings, and temporarily blinds Leif with a mask. Leif removes it, but the guardian dragon finds him. He says that the rule book doesn’t say he can’t fly, but it explodes in his and the dragon’s faces. Kira uses crystal magic to signal the blizzard dragon, and it flies down to freeze Leif in a block of ice (though his wings manage to stick out). His frozen body is sent plummeting into the sea. The dragon grabs Astoria. Rose uses her pumpkin magic to put her PomPoms in pumpkin planes. She stands atop one of them, and creates a pumpkin missile. The dragon freezes one of the planes. Rose realizes that she can’t shoot the dragon without hurting Astoria, and the dragon uses his ice breathe on her plane. It flies out of control, and she begins to fall. LingLing saves her by using her fan magic, and Rose creates a pumpkin balloon. Rose rams the dragon with her balloon, and it pops. The dragon drops Astoria, who uses her tower magic to save Rose.

Hawk and Travis arrive, and Travis summons the Beast Mask. He puts it on and summons a storm. The storm’s strong winds blow the dragon away, but also freezes over the tower. Astoria falls, but Shawn saves her. However, the Rapunzel guardian dragon tells him that he cannot save Astoria on dragonback. The dragon declares that no one is the winner, and the competition is cancelled.

Later, Shawn walks over to Astoria before school begins, and asks to have a word with her. He apologizes for what happened at the tower, but she tells him that he was a real prince. Rapunzel walks over to her granddaughter, and Shawn hides. Rapunzel asks Astoria how the competition was cancelled. Astoria says that no one made it to the top, but one made a lot of progress. Astoria leaves to ace the exam.
