Esquire Frog is Joy's love interest. He is a frog prince and a visiting student from Frog Academy.

Appearance

As a frog, Esquire has light green skin and blue eyes. He wears a yellow outfit with red trim, blue ruffles underneath his sleeves (light blue on one arm and dark blue on the other), and a flowing red cape. He also wears a golden three-pronged crown adorned with several jewels.

As a human, Esquire wears a larger and longer version of his main yellow outfit. The only difference is that the ruffles underneath his sleeves are both light blue. He is shown to have fair skin and lime green hair in a pageboy style, similar to Joy's bob haircut but slightly shorter.

Personality

Esquire is a little conceited and considers himself very attractive. Joy agrees and also thinks he is cute, calling him the most handsome frog ever in "The Grand Ball". He was initially afraid of Joy and thought she was weird when they first met, but he soon warmed up to her.

Esquire is very forgiving and loyal to Joy. Even after Joy betrays him in "The Frog Villain", he comes to her rescue after she is trapped by Von Frogg.

History

Pre-Series

As a baby, Esquire was placed under a frog curse. He never got to live life as a normal human, so he was raised as a frog and came to love being one.

Season 1

In "The Grand Ball", it is love at first sight for Joy when she sees Esquire in person. Joy is incredibly nervous to talk to him, but Rose encourages her to ask out Esquire. Joy wants to kiss Esquire at midnight to break his frog curse and turn him human again. At the ball, Joy finally approaches Esquire and tries to introduce herself awkwardly. She says to him that she loves eating flies and is very experienced with kissing frogs, but Esquire is scared and creeped out.

Regal Academy Esquire Frog Egregio Ranocchio Human

Human Esquire

When the clock strikes midnight, Joy realizes it is her only chance to break Esquire's curse, so she kisses him and he returns to his human form. Esquire sees his reflection in the mirror and reveals that he loves being a frog, and does not want to live life as a human. He begs for his old body and Vicky changes him back into a frog, telling him "You owe me" and hinting that she will try to blackmail him later on.

After Esquire returns to normal, Joy turns into a frog after getting scared. Esquire is smitten with her frog form and realizes he does love Joy, and wants another kiss. Rose sees the new couple and says "How cute!"

Season 2

In "The Frog Villain", Esquire tries to warn Joy that his rival Von Frogg is planning to steal the LeFrog family's Frog Ball. However, Joy is not sure whether or not she believes him. Esquire affirms that he loves her and would never lie, but unfortunately, Joy does not believe him until it is too late. Once Von Frogg reveals his evil intentions and steals the Frog Ball, Joy is saddened and mad at herself for not trusting Esquire.

Esquire restores Joy's confidence and gets her to believe in herself again by professing his feelings to her. He tells her that she has amazing talents and can stop Von Frogg if she tries her best. After Joy successfully defeats Von Frogg and saves the Frog Ball, she personally gives Esquire a heartfelt thanks.

Regal Academy Esquire Frog Egregio Ranocchio Frog-Fu

Esquire's frog-fu pose

In "Princely Competition", Esquire is Joy's partner in Regal Academy's prince competition. They train and practice their frog-fu skills together. However, they end up losing when Esquire's small size leads to his disadvantage during a cake-throwing event. He tries to throw a cake at an ogre but ends up hitting Joy instead. Esquire feels terrible about letting Joy down, so he makes it up to her by giving her a romantic bouquet of bugs.
